A few of this week's featured beers described...

Head down to our corner and give a few of these beers a try - while supplies last!

AVERY 13 - Weizen Bock - 9.5% ABV
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

WEYERBACHER PROPHECY - Abbey Tripel - 9.3% ABV
Merry Monks' Tripel aged in bourbon barrels -
Merry Monks Tripel: premium Pilsener malts, candi-sugar, and yeast strains- all imported from Belgium. True to style, our Trippel is bottle/keg conditioned. This means we add a bit of candi-sugar and yeast just prior to bottling/kegging. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle/keg will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you'll find it becomes drier with age. You may want to lay this beer down for future evaluation.

SMUTTYNOSE WINTER ALE - Abbey Dubbel - 6.8% ABV
A full-bodied, amber beer brewed with a special Trappist ale yeast. Stylistically reminiscent of a Belgian Abbey Double, it features fruity aromas and flavor, balanced by soft Crystal hops. Warming, mellow & pleasantly complex. 2005 is the inaugural year for this beer.

SMUTTYNOSE WHEAT WINE - American Wheat Wine - 11% ABV
Another recently created American style, wheat wine, as its name implies, is a strong ale made with a substantial measure of malted wheat as well as barley. A close cousin to barleywines, wheat wines are typically strong, full bodied, deep gold to amber in color and feature a subtle soft tangy flavor derived from their wheat malt.

HEAVYWEIGHT STICKENJAB ALT BIER
- Alt/Lager/Sticke - 6.4% ABV
Style be damned! An Alt that's a lager? Stickenjab is a sticke or secret alt that was smacked upside the head with lots-o-German hops. Formulated in the collective mind of NJAB (New Jersey Association of Beerwriters), this beer is one of a series of collaborative brews. Munich and pilsner malts support an armful of Hersbrucker hops. Crisp, clean amber brew.

SOUTHERN TIER UNEARTHLY IMPERIAL IPA- Double IPA - 11% ABV
An Uninhibited Infusion of Hops. We continue our commitment to innovation with our most aggressive offering yet Unearthly is a manifestation of the brewers crafts skillfully balancing art and the forces of nature to produce a divine liquid. Delicately pour a taste into a fluted glass. Smell the enchanting aromas of the hops come forward as your first sip divulges this beer’s fervent soul. To underestimate Unearthly is to trifle with the mysteries of the universe so please consume wisely.

Blogging from the Gate, Brooklyn

It's hard for me to keep up with the beers we serve because there are so many and they change so often. Fortunately I can keep tabs pretty easily, but I don't think everyone else can.

So as a service to everyone out there on the internets, I will now provide a weekly list of the fine brews pouring from our taps. You keep an eye out, and come in for a pint of your favorites or those you're curious to try. I'm sure you will only be happier when you leave (a few hours later...)!
